Music
The chapel has a wonderful acoustic
and is much in demand for concerts of all types. Its organ
is a sweet-toned Victorian chamber instrument with two manuals
and tracker action. The church takes full advantage of these
benefits, with a variety of events under the direction of
Dr. Robert Manning, our organist and Director of Music.
Although we have no regular choir, one
is formed for special seasonal services, occasionally augmenting
local church choirs. We sing about five traditional hymns
and contemporary worship songs in our Sunday morning worship.
Many of our children are musically talented and contribute
with flair to services and events.
The London Gallery Quire occasionally add
their special historic choral arrangements and instruments.
Other talents join us occasionally for popular jazz or Celtic-based
services. We've had augmented and illustrated lectures on
Victorian musicians and hymn writers given by Dr. Peter Horton
and Robert Manning – a great opportunity to listen to
experts and sing the music.
Composers find this a fine place to introduce
their work. It was, recently, the setting for a Peter Anthony
Monk’s organ composition “Angels”.
